Indigenous Inspirations – Stories and activities that honor Natural Laws of Interdependence

Learn stories from many cultures as we explore diverse perceptions of Earth, animals, and our place in nature.  These fun hands-on activities will fill you with wonder and a new sense of the diversity of human perception as we go about carefully witnessing and artistically exploring our relationship with life’s many forms.  This class is based on the works of several authors including Gregory Cajete's Native Science.

Offered: Tues 3:30-5:30pm (and as part of a rotation Weds 4-6pm)

Benefits of this class:

  1. Have fun exploring nature
  2. Develop exploratory skills using Jeweler’s Loupes and artistic techniques.
  3. Learn more about different ways of approaching the age-old questions regarding who we are as a species, and how we fit into nature – with an emphasis on seeing the world through many diverse cultures.

Earth Embrace Club

We design our world through every decision we make, yet only a small number of humans ever study design.  What if you had learned simple design concepts from the time you were a young child?  How would you see your world?  What choices would you make?  What would our world look like if the adults in our culture had learned design from an early age?

Earth Embrace Club offers you simple tools, learned through art, nature, Permaculture, and games, to see through the eyes of a designer – one who sees the interconnection of all design elements into an elegant whole.  Learn to flow with nature’s design wisdom – while exploring your own unique expression  (The curriculum we create will eventually be offered in database form so people can start Earth Embrace Clubs worldwide.)

Offered: Thurs 3:30-5:30pm (and as part of a rotation Weds 4-6pm)

Benefits of this class:

  1. Learn simple hands-on design methods that can be applied in every part of your life – school, play, gardening, art, etc.
  2. Have fun while learning skills to expand your perception, and thus your perceived options in life.

Art à la carte!

Love fine art – drawing, painting, and sculpting?  Want to learn innovative techniques and skills that stretch your ability to express who you are, get your creative juices flowing, and your Inner Artist dancing for joy?

You’ve heard the saying, “You are what you eat.”  Ever thought about what that means?  Here’s your chance to explore the world of food seen through many cultures.  Explore the “cosmos on your plate.”  This is not a professional cooking class.  It is an enjoyable exploration of the satisfying magic food offers around the world - from the farm to the table, cooking, preparation, and tasting whole, fresh foods.  Yummm, lots of fun!

New Perceptions – New Options

Tired of focusing on what no longer seems to work within our cultural structures?  Do you long to take the next step toward creating other options that efficiently, effectively, and gracefully restore balance?  This class is for you.

Drawing on the creativity of change-actionists worldwide, each week highlights a new topic: re-localization, thrivable businesses, politics, sustainable agriculture, living democracy, new economic options including complementary currencies, peak oil, engaged communities, permaculture, new educational paradigms, climate change, Spiral Dynamics, etc.

This in-depth course will help ignite your passion and focus your attention and intention – honing your effectiveness as a world change-artist.  (Uses Honoring All Life – A Practical Guide to Exploring a New Reality as a reference text.)

Offered: Mon 7-9pm, Fri 10am- noon, (and in rotation Sat 10 am- noon).

Permaculture Perceptions

Permaculture allows hands-on application of our understanding of the world’s interconnected systems.  Relationships within the system, rather than the separate parts, are its focus.  Using perceptual games we will explore permaculture principles creatively.  Re-perceive your world and its possibilities while learning ways to design diverse aspects of life using nature’s wisdom.  Appropriate for anyone who likes dirt, gardening, and exploring the leading edges of perception.

Please note this is not a Permaculture certification course, but instead, a hands-on exploration of perception using Permaculture as an example of applied systems theory design.

Many advanced presbyopes complain that their arms have become "too short" to hold reading material at a comfortable distance. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presbyopia

The Bates method of natural vision improvement is a program created by ophthalmologist William Horatio Bates, M.D., which aims to correct what Bates, and teachers of the Bates method, see as faulty vision habits through relaxation techniques, exercises and optional activities and games.  From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bates_Method

“The next Buddha will not take the form of an individual.

The next Buddha may take the form of a community;

a community practicing understanding and loving kindness,

a community practicing mindful living.

This may be the most important thing we can do

for the survival of the earth.”

– Thich Nhat Hanh
